Canadian nationals need a visa for Uganda, to be applied for online as an e-Visa before arrival.
Canada is not exempt from a Ugandan visa. Canadian travellers apply for their tourist e-Visa online before flying to Entebbe. Applying in advance is strongly advised, as Uganda now favours the electronic authorisation.
Do you need a visa?
Yes. Canadian citizens must obtain a visa to enter Uganda for tourism. The official route is the e-Visa, requested online from Canada before departure. The passport must be valid for at least six months beyond entry.
How and where to apply
The application is made on the official government portal visas.immigration.go.ug, with no embassy visit. You create an account, complete the form, upload the photo, passport page and supporting documents, then pay online. The approved authorisation arrives by email and is shown on arrival.
Documents and fees
Prepare a Canadian passport valid for six months, a recent photo, proof of accommodation and, often, a yellow-fever vaccination certificate. The fee amount and payment method are shown on the official portal. Check visas.immigration.go.ug for the exact tariff, not fixed here.
Processing and tips
Submit the application several working days before travel to allow for processing. Carry a printed copy of the e-Visa and the yellow-fever certificate, which is frequently checked on entry. Consider the East Africa Tourist Visa if you combine Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.
Common mistakes
Forgetting the yellow-fever certificate is a common cause of trouble on arrival in Uganda. Also check that names match the passport and avoid intermediary sites: the visas.immigration.go.ug portal is the only official channel.
