Yes. Holders of a Ghanaian passport must obtain a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before travelling to Germany, for stays of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This visa is not issued on arrival; it can only be obtained from the German mission in Ghana.

The published fee is the government charge alone. Two or three other lines are added before the visa is in the passport, and they are what makes the final bill.

Applications are lodged in Accra, at the German Embassy or its collection partner VFS Global. You complete the form, book an appointment, and attend in person to give your biometric data. Germany must be your main destination, or your first point of entry into the Schengen area, for it to be the country that handles your file.

The regime follows your nationality, not where you live. If you reside in Ghana but travel on another country's passport, the rule on this page is not yours. Filing usually still happens from your country of residence, at the post competent for it, but the requirement itself comes from your passport.

Processing usually takes 15 to 45 days. Aim to apply about six weeks before departure, and no earlier than six months ahead. Appointment slots in Accra can be scarce in peak season, so book early and avoid non-refundable tickets until the visa is granted.

Many refusals come from non-compliant insurance or weak evidence of ties returning you to Ghana. Also check health entry requirements, in particular a possible yellow-fever certificate. Do not apply through Germany if you will actually spend more time in another Schengen country.
