United Kingdom e-Visa for citizens of Mexico: online application, fees and processing time 2026

Holders of a passport from Mexico must obtain an ETA before any tourist trip to the United Kingdom. This electronic travel authorisation is not a consular visa: it is applied for and granted online. It allows a stay of up to 6 months, and carriers check that it exists before boarding. For other purposes of travel, check the applicable rules on the official page.

The published fee is the government charge alone. Two or three other lines are added before the visa is in the passport, and they are what makes the final bill.

Prepare the Mexican passport you will travel with, a recent photo of your face that meets the requirements, an email address and a bank card accepted for online payments. Children need their own ETA. The starting point is the official UK government portal (GOV.UK), which also links to the official app. There you enter your contact details and passport data, add a photo of the identity page and a photo of your face, answer the eligibility questions and pay. Some sites imitate this process and add fees: check that the address belongs to the official gov.uk domain.

The regime follows your nationality, not where you live. If you reside in Mexico but travel on another country's passport, the rule on this page is not yours. Filing usually still happens from your country of residence, at the post competent for it, but the requirement itself comes from your passport.

The recorded processing time is 3 business days. Because the time is counted in business days, an application submitted at the end of the week may take longer in calendar days. Apply as soon as your dates are fixed, and check the answer received by email before leaving for the airport. Keep a copy of the confirmation with your travel documents.

The most common mistakes are paying on an unofficial site, entering a wrong passport number and using, on the day of departure, a different passport from the one declared. Travellers who have renewed their passport must apply again. Finally, do not confuse the 6-month stay with the validity of the authorisation, whose conditions are on the official page.
