Visa for Switzerland from Suriname: price, documents and processing time 2026

Yes. For tourism of up to 90 days within any 180-day period, Surinamese citizens must hold a Schengen Type C visa. Switzerland has to be your main destination or your first point of entry into the Schengen Area so that the application falls under the Swiss authorities (SEM).

The published fee is the government charge alone. Two or three other lines are added before the visa is in the passport, and they are what makes the final bill.

Prepare a passport valid for at least three months beyond your intended departure, the signed form, a recent photo, travel medical insurance covering at least €30,000, proof of accommodation, a return ticket and evidence of funds. The visa fee is normally €90 for an adult (payable in local currency or Swiss francs depending on the office). Confirm the amount and payment method with the Swiss mission.

Apply at the Swiss embassy or consulate responsible for Suriname, or at its partner application centre (VFS Global or TLScontact). Book an appointment, complete the Schengen application form and attend in person for biometrics. Filing usually still happens from your country of residence, at the post competent for it, but the requirement itself comes from your passport.

Processing usually takes 15 to 45 days. You may lodge the application up to six months before travel; aim for at least three to four weeks ahead. If your file passes through an embassy in a neighbouring country, add postal time for sending and returning your passport.

Refusals often come from choosing the wrong main destination, from insurance that is insufficient or expired, or from gaps in proof of funds and accommodation. Also check any vaccination requirements (yellow fever) and keep a copy of every document you submit.
