Visa for Austria from Tanzania: price, documents and processing time 2026

Austria is a Schengen member and applies the common visa policy. Because Tanzania is not exempt, Tanzanian nationals must apply for a Type C visa before travelling. When Austria is your main destination (or your first point of entry for equal-length stays), the application belongs with Austria rather than another Schengen state.

The Schengen visa fee is normally EUR 90 for an adult (reduced for children aged 6–12, free below 6). Prepare a passport valid at least three months beyond your intended departure, two recent photos, travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000, proof of accommodation, an itinerary, return tickets and evidence of sufficient funds.

Applications are lodged at the Austrian embassy or consulate responsible for Tanzania, or through its external service provider (often VFS Global) in Dar es Salaam. Book an appointment in advance, complete the Schengen application form and attend in person for fingerprinting unless you have given biometrics within the last 59 months.
