In short

Ugandan nationals need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa before travelling to Poland for tourism. There is no visa on arrival.

Poland is part of the Schengen area, and holders of a Ugandan passport are subject to the visa requirement. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period. A Ugandan traveller, most often based in Kampala, must prepare the file in advance and lodge it with the competent Polish mission.

Do you need a visa?

Yes. A Ugandan traveller needs a uniform Schengen Type C visa for a tourist stay in Poland. Poland must be your main destination (where you spend the most nights) or your first point of entry into the Schengen area, which is what makes the Polish mission responsible for your application.

How and where to apply

Applications are lodged at the Polish consulate or embassy responsible for Uganda, or through its external provider (VFS Global, BLS or TLScontact, depending on the arrangement), as Poland may not maintain a consular post in Kampala. The appointment is normally booked through the e-Konsulat system; you then attend in person for biometrics and to submit the file. Check the exact channel on gov.pl.

Documents and fees

Prepare a valid passport, compliant photos, the signed Schengen form, a return flight reservation, proof of accommodation, evidence of funds and travel medical insurance covering at least EUR 30,000 within the Schengen area. The visa fee is normally EUR 90 for an adult, excluding the provider's service charge. Confirm the amount and the document list on the official source.

Processing and tips

Processing usually takes 15 to 45 days; lodge early, within the six-month window before departure, and plan the appointment ahead if you must travel outside Uganda for the interview. A consistent file (matching dates, accommodation and funds) limits requests for further documents. As Uganda is in a yellow-fever endemic zone, a vaccination certificate may be required, so prepare it in advance.

Common mistakes

Refusals often come from inadequate insurance, weak financial evidence, applying to the wrong Schengen state when Poland is not the main destination, or applying too late. Do not buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is granted, and make sure your passport stays valid for at least three months beyond your planned exit from the Schengen area.
