Summary
USD 30, a one-month stay, three months to enter: Cambodia's tourist visa online or on arrival, the free e-Arrival form and the end of visa stickers since October 2026.
To visit Angkor, Phnom Penh or the Kampot coast on a British, Irish or other European passport, you need a visa. Cambodia's tourist visa (category T) costs USD 30 under the official fee schedule of Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It allows a stay of one month, single entry, and remains valid for three months after issue. You can get it online as an e-Visa or on arrival at the airport.
Two recent changes matter before you go: the e-Arrival declaration, mandatory for air arrivals, and the end of visa stickers in passports, replaced by electronic visas since 3 October 2026. This guide is based on official Cambodian sources and UK Foreign Office advice, checked on 23 October 2026. The rules for each nationality are on the pages for British travellers and Irish travellers.
e-Visa or visa on arrival: which one?
The e-Visa is applied for on evisa.gov.kh, the Cambodian government portal, or in its official iOS and Android app. The official consular fee schedule gives a processing time of three working days for the T visa. The Foreign Office advises applying at least four days before you travel; in practice, a week ahead avoids any stress. The visa is sent by email and can also be downloaded from the portal.
The visa on arrival is still available at international airports and land border checkpoints. You need a passport photo and payment in US dollars. No advance paperwork, but a queue at the counter.
One little-known limit of the e-Visa: according to the Cambodian embassy in Berlin, visas obtained directly on the portal are not accepted at some small border checkpoints or for cruise ship arrivals. If you fly into Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, this does not affect you. If you are entering by road or river, check your crossing point before choosing.
Fee, validity and length of stay
The official fee schedule published by the missions of Cambodia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives the following for the tourist visa T:
- USD 30;
- a stay of one month from entry;
- validity of three months after issue, to enter the country;
- single entry.
The total amount to pay online is displayed before payment: check it before you confirm. Do not mix up the two periods: the three months are the window to enter Cambodia, the month is the length of your stay. A T visa does not allow you to work or settle: those cases fall under the ordinary visa (E) and a work permit.
Passport and the e-Arrival form
Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive, undamaged and complete: the Foreign Office notes that entry is normally refused with a damaged passport or one with missing pages.
The e-Arrival replaces the paper immigration, health and customs forms. For now it applies to travellers arriving by air, and it is completed within the seven days before arrival. Once submitted, you receive a QR code to save on your phone or print: immigration officers, and sometimes airline staff at check-in, may ask for it. You can edit the form until the code has been scanned.
Three points to remember: the e-Arrival is not a visa and is still required if you already hold an e-Visa; it is free on the official website and app; a site that charges for it is not official.
The end of visa stickers since October 2026
The Cambodian government is phasing out visa stickers in passports. According to the Cambodian embassy in Berlin, all applications submitted from 3 October 2026, online or through an embassy, are processed on the electronic portal, and the visa is sent by email. Embassies therefore no longer issue paper visas, and the Berlin embassy now accepts applications by email only.
For you, the consequence is simple: keep your electronic visa at hand, on your phone and printed, together with your e-Arrival QR code.
Extending your stay, and not overstaying
A tourist visa can be extended in Cambodia through the immigration authorities. Your passport must then be valid for at least six months from the start date of the extension.
Overstaying is expensive: the Foreign Office says there is no limit to the fine, and you risk detention and deportation. If you overstay by more than 30 days, you must leave the country and pay the fine. The Foreign Office also advises making sure your passport is stamped on arrival and keeping the departure form if you are given one.
Traps to avoid
Intermediary websites. Searching for "Cambodia visa" first brings up sites that imitate the official portal and charge several times the price for the same application, sometimes including the e-Arrival, which is free. The only official e-Visa portal is evisa.gov.kh.
The Thai border. Land border crossings between Cambodia and Thailand are suspended, and the Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel within 20 km of that border. A Bangkok to Siem Reap trip by road is not possible for now: fly instead.
The wrong entry point. The e-Visa is not accepted everywhere: if you arrive by cruise ship or at a small border post, check first.
A worn passport. A torn page or a loose cover can be enough for entry to be refused.
