Do I need a visa for Canada from Congo?

Citizens of the Republic of the Congo must obtain a Temporary Resident (visitor) Visa before travelling to Canada; they are not eligible for an eTA.
Congo is not among the countries whose nationals can travel to Canada with only an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). A Congolese national who wants to visit Canada for tourism must therefore apply for a visitor visa. The application is made online through IRCC, followed by biometrics at a Visa Application Centre.
Do you need a visa?
Yes. Citizens of the Republic of the Congo need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), also called a visitor visa, for a tourist stay in Canada. Unlike travellers from visa-exempt countries, they cannot use the eTA. The visa must be valid before you board your flight to Canada.
How and where to apply
You apply online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) portal. After creating your profile and uploading your documents, you will be asked to give biometrics (fingerprints and photo) at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) that serves Congo. From Brazzaville this usually means attending the VAC designated for the region.
Documents and fees
Prepare a valid passport, the completed application form, compliant photos, proof of sufficient funds, a travel itinerary and a letter explaining the purpose of your visit; an invitation can help. We do not quote a fee here: check canada.ca for the official visa and biometrics charges, which can change. Pay exactly as directed on the IRCC portal.
Processing time and practical tips
Processing times vary by visa office and season; use IRCC's online processing-time tool rather than relying on an estimate. Apply well before your travel date and allow time for the biometrics appointment. A complete, consistent file reduces requests for additional documents.
Common mistakes / good to know
The most common mistake is assuming the eTA is enough: it is not open to Congolese nationals, who need a visa. Another pitfall is underestimating evidence of ties to Congo (employment, family, property) that reassures the officer you will return. Finally, check health requirements, including a possible yellow-fever vaccination certificate.
