In short

Algerians need a visa, obtained via Gabon's official e-Visa portal — plus a yellow-fever certificate, no exceptions.

Gabon does not waive visas for Algerian nationals. The good news: the country runs an official e-Visa portal operated by the DGDI, letting you prepare everything online before you fly. But Gabon also imposes one non-negotiable health condition: proof of yellow-fever vaccination. Here is how to do it smoothly.

The official e-Visa: how it works

You apply online at the official portal evisa.dgdi.ga (Directorate General of Documentation and Immigration). Create an account, enter your details, upload your passport bio page and a recent photo, then fill in your travel dates, purpose (tourism) and your accommodation or host in Gabon. Processing is reported to be quick (a matter of days). You receive an electronic pre-authorization — not yet a sticker visa, but a pre-enrollment. Crucially, the e-Visa is valid only for arrival by air at Léon-Mba International Airport in Libreville, where the actual visa sticker is finalized on arrival. Entry by land or sea follows a different procedure — check with the consulate if relevant.

Yellow fever: the unavoidable condition

Gabon is a yellow-fever-endemic country and requires an international vaccination certificate for all travelers aged 9 months and over, under the WHO International Health Regulations. Without it, you can be refused entry at the border — this is not a formality to skip. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival (the lead time needed for protection to be recognized). Since 2016 the certificate is valid for life, so no booster can be demanded. Keep the original yellow card, which may be checked on arrival.

Documents and fees to plan for

Bring a passport valid at least 6 months with blank pages, a recent color ID photo, your return or onward ticket, proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host details — the online form requires naming a registered host), and of course the yellow-fever certificate. Proof of sufficient funds is often expected. On cost: visa fees exist, denominated in euros / Central African CFA francs (XAF), and have historically been paid in cash on arrival. Gabon announced in late 2025 a shift to online payment before departure — but as full rollout is not guaranteed in 2026, plan for the possibility of paying cash (XAF or EUR) in Libreville. Always confirm the exact current amounts and payment method directly on evisa.dgdi.ga before booking.

Best time to travel

Gabon has an equatorial climate with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season, typically from June to September and December to February, is recommended for travel due to reduced rainfall. It is advisable to avoid the rainy seasons, usually from March to May and October to November, to enjoy outdoor activities comfortably.

Main arrival airports

The main international airports in Gabon are Léon-Mba International Airport in Libreville and Port-Gentil International Airport. These airports handle most international flights and are the common entry points for travelers arriving by air.

Documents to prepare

For an e-visa, travelers must have a valid passport with at least six months' validity beyond the planned departure date. They should also have a confirmation of the e-visa application, a return or onward ticket, and supporting documents of accommodation or financial means if required. Travel insurance covering the stay is also recommended.
