Peruvian nationals need a Temporary Resident Visa (visitor visa) to travel to Canada. Peru is not eTA-eligible, so the application is filed online through IRCC.
Unlike visa-exempt travellers who can use a simple Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), Peruvian passport holders must lodge a full visitor visa application with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. The visa covers tourism, family visits and short business trips.
Do you need a visa?
Yes. The Peruvian passport is not among the visa-exempt nationalities for Canada and cannot travel on an eTA alone. You must obtain a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) before boarding, whether for tourism, visiting relatives or attending a meeting.
How and where to apply
The process is online through the IRCC portal: create an account, complete the form and upload your supporting documents. After submission you are directed to a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Peru, in Lima, to provide your biometrics (photo and fingerprints).
Documents and fees
Prepare a valid passport, proof of sufficient funds, a travel itinerary, evidence of strong ties to Peru (employment, property, family) and, if you are being hosted, a letter of invitation. Canada charges a visa processing fee plus a separate biometrics fee. We do not quote an amount here — check canada.ca for the current rates.
Processing and tips
Processing times vary widely by season and visa-office workload; IRCC publishes a live estimate online that you should check before booking. Apply well in advance and avoid non-refundable tickets until the visa is stamped in your passport.
Common mistakes
The most common refusals relate to weak proof of ties to Peru (the officer doubts you will return), funds seen as too tight, or an incomplete form. Skipping the biometrics step at the VAC stalls the file. Make sure the details match your passport exactly.
