In short

Pakistani citizens need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Norway. There is no visa exemption or e-visa for holders of a Pakistani passport.

Norway is part of the Schengen area even though it is not an EU member. A Pakistani traveller planning a holiday, a family visit or tourism must obtain a visa before departure. The visa allows a stay of up to 90 days within any 180-day period and is valid across the whole Schengen area, provided Norway is your main destination.

Do you need a visa?

Yes. The Pakistani passport carries no Schengen exemption, so a Type C short-stay visa is mandatory for tourism, family visits or short business trips to Norway. Apply for it when Norway is your only destination or the country where you will spend the most nights. If you intend to visit several Schengen countries with no clear main destination, lodge the application with your country of first entry.

How and where to apply

Norway processes applications through the UDI online portal: you build your case, pay the fee, then book an appointment at a VFS Global centre in Pakistan (Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi) to submit your documents and biometrics (fingerprints and photo). You must attend in person at least once for biometric enrolment. Check the UDI website for the centre that serves your place of residence.

Documents and fees

The Schengen visa fee is generally €90 for an adult (reduced for children), plus the VFS centre's service charge. Prepare a passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure, a Schengen-standard photo, travel insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical costs, proof of accommodation, a return flight booking, bank statements and proof of employment or activity. Confirm the exact list and the current amount with UDI.

Processing and tips

Processing usually takes 15 to 45 days but can run longer in peak season or when extra checks are needed. Apply no earlier than six months before travel and no later than 15 days before, and never rely on last-minute processing. A complete, consistent file with strong ties to Pakistan (job, family, property) speeds up the decision.

Common mistakes

Refusals often stem from inadequate insurance, weak financial evidence, an unconfirmed hotel booking, or applying to the wrong country when Norway was not the main destination. Avoid dummy reservations, never submit forged documents, and always keep a safety margin between the visa's expiry and your return.
