In short

Moroccan passport holders need a Schengen short-stay (Type C) visa to visit Norway, obtained before departure.

Morocco is not visa-exempt for the Schengen area, and Norway - although outside the EU - is a full Schengen member. Moroccan citizens travelling to Norway for up to 90 days in any 180-day period must therefore apply for a Schengen visa in advance, with Norway as their main destination. This guide walks Moroccan applicants through the steps.

Do you need a visa?

Yes. Moroccan nationals require a Schengen Type C visa for short tourist, family or business stays in Norway, allowing up to 90 days within any 180-day period across Schengen. Norway must be your primary destination to apply through Norwegian channels. Confirm the requirement for your passport with Norway's immigration authority (UDI) before booking.

How and where to apply

Moroccan applicants register their application online with UDI and then book an appointment with Norway's authorised visa centre or embassy serving Morocco (commonly via an outsourcing partner such as VFS Global). Attend in person to give biometrics - fingerprints and a photo - and submit your supporting documents. Apply up to six months before, and at least 15 working days ahead of, travel.

Documents and fees

Prepare a passport valid at least three months beyond your return with two blank pages, the completed application/checklist, a biometric photo, return flight reservations, proof of accommodation in Norway, evidence of sufficient funds, and travel medical insurance of at least 30,000 EUR. The adult visa fee is 90 EUR (45 EUR for children 6-11; free under 6), plus any service-centre charge.

Processing and tips

A decision usually takes about 15 to 45 days, though summer demand can extend this. Provide clear proof of employment or study and of ties to Morocco, apply early, and avoid non-refundable bookings until the visa is issued. Keep copies of everything you submit.

Common mistakes

Moroccan travellers commonly err by treating Norway as outside Schengen (it is inside), applying when it isn't their main destination, buying insurance below 30,000 EUR, or presenting weak financial evidence. Short passport validity and skipped biometrics also lead to refusals.
