Visa for Norway from Rwanda: price, documents and processing time 2026

Yes. A Rwandan traveller going to Norway for tourism, a family visit or a short business trip must apply for a Type C Schengen visa. Norway must be your main destination (where you spend the most nights, or your point of entry in case of a tie) for the Norwegian authorities to be competent.

The published fee is the government charge alone. Two or three other lines are added before the visa is in the passport, and they are what makes the final bill.

Prepare the UDI application form, a passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned exit, two compliant photos, travel medical insurance covering at least €30,000, a return flight reservation, proof of accommodation and evidence of financial means. The visa fee is generally €90 for an adult; confirm the amount and payment via UDI and the competent mission.

Start by creating an application and paying the fee through the UDI portal (udi.no), then book an appointment with the competent mission. As Norway does not always keep a visa section in Kigali, Rwandan residents often go through an authorised external provider (VFS Global) or a partner Norwegian embassy covering the region for document submission and biometric capture.

• Your application goes to the state that is your main destination. If Norway is where you spend the longest, it handles the file, whatever the entry point.
• With no main destination, the competent state is the one you enter first.
• If Norway has no consulate in Rwanda, another Schengen state may act on its behalf under a representation arrangement, or the file goes to the post accredited for your country.

Then the application goes to the post accredited for Rwanda, often in a neighbouring capital, or to a state acting on its behalf. Confirm which post is competent with the official source before travelling to a third country to apply, a rejected file at the wrong counter costs the trip and the fee.

The regime follows your nationality, not where you live. If you reside in Rwanda but travel on another country's passport, the rule on this page is not yours. Filing usually still happens from your country of residence, at the post competent for it, but the requirement itself comes from your passport.

Processing usually takes 15 to 45 days; apply up to six months in advance and at least 15 days before departure. As Rwanda is a yellow-fever risk area, keep an international vaccination certificate, which is frequently required at borders. A file submitted through the UDI portal and well organised speeds up the review.

Do not apply to Norway if your stay is mainly in another Schengen country. Avoid insufficient insurance, a passport with too little validity, or unconfirmed reservations. Do not pay for non-refundable tickets before the visa is granted, and remember to complete the online application on UDI before the appointment.
