Summary

United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait… Our 2026 barometer ranks the 22 Arab League passports by destinations reachable without a consular visa, computed across 198 destinations.

  • IziVisas barometer: October 2026 edition of our world ranking, data as of 15 October 2026, 22 Arab League passports compared across 198 destinations.*

Which Arab passport travels most freely in 2026? From our world passport ranking (196 passports, 198 destinations), we took the 22 member states of the Arab League and ranked them by the number of destinations reachable without a consular visa: visa-free, with a visa on arrival, or with an e-visa obtained online.

Key findings

In October 2026, the United Arab Emirates passport is the most powerful in the Arab world, and in the world: 185 destinations reachable without going through a consulate, ahead of Qatar (128) and Kuwait (121). Syria comes last with 70 destinations.

  • The United Arab Emirates passport ranks 1st of 196 worldwide: 185 destinations (125 visa-free, 29 on arrival, 31 by e-visa), two more than the 19 European passports tied in 2nd place (183).
  • The six Gulf passports hold the top six places in the Arab world, but behind the UAE they sit between 94th (Qatar) and 110th (Oman) worldwide.
  • In the Maghreb, Morocco leads: 7th in the Arab world, 122nd worldwide, with 103 destinations, ahead of Tunisia (130th, 99), Mauritania (150th, 93) and Algeria (154th, 92). Libya is 191st (79).
  • The gap runs 1 to 2.6: 185 destinations for an Emirati, 70 for a Syrian.
  • E-visas weigh more the lower a passport ranks: 17% of the destinations open to an Emirati, 36% for a Moroccan, 46% for an Algerian, 70% for a Syrian.

The UAE, the world's top passport

The Emirati passport does not owe its first place to e-visas but to visa-free access: 125 visa-free destinations, more than any European passport (120 at most in this edition). Only 13 destinations still require an Emirati to go through a consulate, against 15 for the 19 European passports ranked just behind.

Gulf and Maghreb: two worlds

Behind the UAE, the drop is steep: Qatar, the second Arab passport, ranks only 94th worldwide, with 57 fewer destinations. The difference is almost entirely visa-free access: 65 visa-free destinations for a Qatari, against 125 for an Emirati. Kuwait (98th), Saudi Arabia (103rd), Bahrain (108th) and Oman (110th) follow closely.

The first passport outside the Gulf is Moroccan. The Moroccan passport is four destinations ahead of the Tunisian passport and eleven ahead of the Algerian passport, mostly thanks to visa-free access: 40 visa-free destinations for a Moroccan, 35 for a Tunisian, 22 for an Algerian. Mauritania even edges ahead of Algeria, by one destination.

Egypt, 9th in the Arab world and 139th worldwide, has a profile of its own: few visa-free destinations (19), but many e-visas (47) and visas on arrival (30). The bottom of the table follows the map of crises: Lebanon (180th), Sudan (183rd), Palestine (188th), Libya (191st), Somalia and Yemen (tied 192nd), Iraq (194th) and Syria (195th of 196).

E-visas, the way in for the bottom of the table

The number of e-visa destinations varies little from one Arab passport to another: from 31 for the UAE to 49 for Syria and Palestine. Visa-free access, by contrast, ranges from 4 (Syria) to 125 (UAE). As a result, for 10 of the 22 passports, e-visas account for more than half of the destinations reachable without a consulate; for an Iraqi, two thirds (48 of 73).

In practice, an online application often opens the route: an Algerian applies for an e-visa for Armenia as for Indonesia, and a Tunisian for Thailand.

That leaves consular visas, still required by 95 destinations for a Moroccan, 106 for an Algerian and 126 for a Syrian. For those, everything depends on the file: our application review checks yours before you submit it.

Method

Data as of 15 October 2026, from the October 2026 edition of our world passport ranking (196 passports, 198 destinations), frozen on that date. For each passport, we record the short-stay tourist regime in each destination: visa-free, visa on arrival, e-visa (electronic travel authorisations included) or a visa to obtain from a consulate. These regimes come from the visa policies documented on Wikipedia, corrected against official sources (ministries, e-visa portals) where they differ.

The score counts destinations reachable without a consular visa: visa-free, visa on arrival and e-visa. This is the main difference with the Henley Passport Index, which does not count e-visas, and with our African and Latin American barometers, which count only visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations. The Arab League has 22 members, including Palestine, Comoros, Djibouti and Somalia.

Passport pages show today's rules: their figures may differ by a few destinations from this frozen edition, which will be updated in January 2027. Entry rules change: always check with the embassy or the destination's official website before travelling.
