Do I need a visa for Indonesia from Ecuador?

Discover visa requirements for your trip

In short

Yes, a visa is required but a light one: Ecuadorian nationals can normally obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) in Indonesia, or arrange it online in advance as an e-VOA.

Ecuador does not get full visa-free access to Indonesia, but its nationals normally qualify for the Visa on Arrival. For Bali, Jakarta or another destination in the archipelago, you can pay the VoA at the counter on arrival or, more comfortably, apply for the e-VOA online before departure. This guide covers both options, the documents and the extension rule.

Do you need a visa for Indonesia?

Yes, but in a lighter form. Ecuadorian citizens are not fully visa-exempt, but they are among the nationalities eligible for the Visa on Arrival (VoA), also available electronically as an e-VOA and, for other purposes, via the e-Visa. The tourist VoA is not a free stamp: it is a paid visa, obtained on arrival or online before you travel.

VoA on arrival or e-VOA online

Two routes lead to the same tourist visa. On arrival, go to the "Visa on Arrival" desk at eligible airports and seaports (Bali-Denpasar, Jakarta…) and pay the fee on the spot before immigration. Online, apply for the e-VOA in advance on the official portal molina.imigrasi.go.id: create an account, enter your passport details, upload your photo and the bio-data page, then pay by card. You receive the document by e-mail. For Bali in high season, the e-VOA avoids queues at the counter.

Documents and fees

Carry an Ecuadorian passport valid for at least 6 months on entry, with blank pages, and a return or onward ticket. Payment is by card for the online e-VOA, or on the spot for the classic VoA. As the VoA/e-VOA amount and its validity can change, check the current fee directly on molina.imigrasi.go.id (or evisa.imigrasi.go.id for another visa type) before paying: we do not publish a figure here to avoid quoting outdated information.

Length of stay, timing and tips

The tourist VoA and e-VOA generally allow a 30-day stay, extendable once by a further 30 days, up to 60 days in total. The extension is requested from immigration offices in Indonesia or online according to the rules in force; start it several days before expiry. Tip: get the e-VOA a few days before departure so you arrive in Bali relaxed, document already in hand.

Common mistakes and good to know

Do not confuse the VoA with visa exemption: Ecuador qualifies for the paid VoA, not a free entry. Check that your nationality is still on the VoA eligibility list before relying on it, as that list changes. Finally, watch out for overstaying, penalised with a daily fine, and for passport validity: less than 6 months on entry means refusal, even with a valid e-VOA.
