Visa for Gabon from the United States: 2026 entry rules

Yes, a visa is required, but issuance to U.S. citizens is suspended. According to the Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Libreville, Gabon announced this suspension on 18 December 2025, in reciprocity for the partial entry restrictions the United States has applied to Gabonese nationals since 1 January 2026.

The Department of State advises U.S. citizens considering travel to check the latest entry requirements with the nearest Gabonese embassy or consulate. It notes that entry is at the sole discretion of the Government of Gabon and that the U.S. Embassy cannot intervene to facilitate entry for private travellers.

If issuance resumes, the visa must be obtained before departure following the procedure set by the Gabonese authorities. Your passport must be valid, and Gabon's health formalities apply in addition to the visa. Check each requirement with the Gabonese mission rather than relying on a list published before the suspension.
