Indonesia e-Visa for citizens of Eritrea: online application, fees and processing time 2026

Yes. Eritrean citizens are not among the nationalities exempted from a visa for Indonesia and cannot rely on visa-free entry. The most common option is the e-Visa, an electronic visa applied for online that covers tourism and short stays, among other purposes. Be sure to arrange your visa before departure.

The published fee is the government charge alone. Two or three other lines are added before the visa is in the passport, and they are what makes the final bill.

Have an Eritrean passport valid for at least 6 months on entry, with blank pages, a compliant photo, a return or onward ticket and, frequently, proof of accommodation and funds. A sponsor or letter of invitation may be required depending on the category. The e-Visa fee is paid online by card. You apply online on the official portal evisa.imigrasi.go.id: create an account, choose the visa category that fits your trip, enter your passport details, upload your photo and the bio-data page, then pay by card. You may also lodge a file with the Indonesian embassy or consulate responsible for Eritrea. Given the checks that may apply, start the process well ahead of time.

The regime follows your nationality, not where you live. If you reside in Eritrea but travel on another country's passport, the rule on this page is not yours. Filing usually still happens from your country of residence, at the post competent for it, but the requirement itself comes from your passport.

e-Visa times depend on the category and can be longer if extra review of the file is needed; allow a wide margin and apply several weeks before departure. Keep the confirmation e-mail to present on arrival with your passport. Finally, check health requirements: a yellow-fever vaccination certificate may be required if you are arriving from a risk area.

Do not count on a visa on arrival: it is not available to Eritreans, and turning up without a visa means denied boarding or entry. Do not underestimate processing times or the supporting documents requested. Watch out for overstaying, punished with a daily fine, and for passport validity: less than 6 months on entry is enough to cause refusal, even with a valid e-Visa.
